Don’t you wish you could feel fresh as the name freshman suggests?

However, the truth for some entering university is that they are anxious about this next stage of life.

What are some things that incoming university students might worry about?

Is Orientation A Necessary Nightmare To Attend?

For starters, there is university orientation.

That might not be everyone’s cup of tea though.

Some don’t like being forced to do loud cheering, but they do so such that they don’t look like a party pooper.

A few of the games played during orientation might make them uncomfortable, especially the forfeits for the losers.

There might be overly enthusiastic orientation group leaders who have too much fun that they forget to make their group members feel at ease.

But when first meeting someone, people get shy, and filter out their sense of humour in case they scare people away.

Orientations might be a necessary event to attend in order to put yourself out there if you want friends, or at least someone you can be on good business terms with.

Of course, you could have a few topics to talk about when first meeting someone.

For example, comment about someone based on their appearance.

“Hey, you look fit, have you been working out?”

“Where did you get that shirt from? It looks good.”

After making them feel good, one can do the logistical introductions, like what was their previous school, or what course they are taking.

Then they can ask more personal questions, such as:

“How has the past year been?”

“Anything you’re looking forward to?”

“What’s on your Spotify on repeat?”

Next, there comes the issue of meeting so many people that one forgets about going further than the first interaction.

Some might not want a bunch of hi-bye friends.

People don’t want to deal with the situation where they are about to walk past someone and they don’t know if they’re close enough to say hi.

An Academic Weapon Or A Liability In University?

People are constantly talking about being an academic weapon.

But for guys, they might have to familiarise themselves with studying after 2 years of national service.

They would have to pop pills, like those fish oils with omega-3 and 6.

Watching college study tips on YouTube seems helpful.

However, they might feel the high of progress, though they haven’t implemented whatever was mentioned in the videos.

This is when people go crazy in the first semester, enforcing rules to be an academic weapon.

Spend 3 hours on deep work per day.

Try to study in the morning when the mind is calm.

Listen to instrumental music.

Plan ahead so that you don’t have to cram.

Review and take note of mistakes or concepts you don’t understand.

Spam practice papers.

Actively utilitse spaced repetition.

Teach someone or something to better help with your understanding.

Group Projects: Would You Rather Work Alone?

What would be helpful is if one has good groupmates for projects!

But you might not be able to control that, so perhaps you should just work on either being a good groupmate or dealing with bad groupmates.

Some don’t like the idea that their grade can be affected by someone else.

People don’t like how they don’t have full autonomy over something.

They might prefer working alone, but that’s not how the world functions.

So, they have to adapt quickly.

Sleeping Well While Having Good Grades And Friends?

Is it possible to have great sleep hygiene while having good grades and friends?

Some people’s sleep schedule at university can be quite trashy.

They might pull many all-nighters, and that can’t be healthy for someone’s body!

Perhaps the plan here is to tire oneself out as much as possible so that by nighttime, you’re ready for reverse planking.

But that also requires one not to do things right before bedtime.

Don’t eat, drink, go onto social media, or exercise.

Exercise: Is Your Body Coping Fine?

Will one get enough time to exercise?

Probably, if you make it a priority.

Perhaps one could alternate between physically and mentally exhausting tasks.

For studying breaks, one can let out the stress by working out or going for a run.

Some would join a sports club so that they can be accountable to people and also bond with others through exercise.

Screen Time: Doom Scrolling In University?

Another thing to work on is digital minimalism.

Does one really need more screen time when they spend so much time studying?

Some pass the time faster in NS with social media and shows and games, but it’s time they get back on the sigma grindset and delete these apps.

No, perhaps just occupy their lives with other things so that they won’t be chronically online.

3 to 4 hours per day on online entertainment seems enough.

Are We Cooked Coming Into University?

With so many things to pre-amp oneself for the next 4 years, it’s likely that one won’t be 100% ready for what’s to come.

All one can do is put in their best effort and trust the process.

For the incoming freshmen, I wish you all the best in this new stage of life!
